Michael, I enjoyed this article – thanks for publishing it.

We are obviously watching a train wreck in slow motion when it comes to the US economy and it will be difficult (if not impossible) for Canadians to protect themselves from the wreckage. For those who are not shy on taking risks, in your opinion what is the best way to short the US economy? One option I was thinking of was to buy an American vacation property and mortgage it to the hilt at a fixed rate. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated and, in asking, I recognize that investment advice is usually worth exactly what someone pays for it.

Sorry I missed this comment some time ago. Buying US property is fraught with tax, insurance, residency and other issues. I have been shorting the US economy by shorting their dollar. It has worked out well so far .Of course you still have to find a place to vacation.

Woorrisome to know that we are entirely dependant on USA for our wellbeing. Our Business leaders are to be blamed for the lethargy they display in improving trade with BRIC countries
